During the last light switch on in Shrewsbury before the pandemic, AL came across Rock Choir as they were doing what they do best. Rock Choir was on AL’s “To interview” list and he thought he had plenty of time to organise it. Then the world ended…a little bit.
Now we finally have the opportunity to break the ice! Coming to you from Cafe on the Cop, AL is speaking with Rowan Richards from Rock Choir. A multiple award winning choir, with bases set all across the UK with over 30,000 members (pre Covid). There are also 3 Guinness World Records to mention!
AL discusses the beginnings for Rock Choir with Rowan and how she came to be such a big part of things here in Shropshire. We had to discuss how people managed during the pandemic (sorry!) But as we discover here in this podcast, there is such a feeling of family when it comes to fellow choir members that it must have been a huge blow to them and their community alike.
AS this episode goes out you have plenty of time to make arrangements to go and watch Rock Choir perform at St Alkmunds Church in Shrewsbury on Saturday 9th July. There will be lots of stunning music, 12 hours of it actually! And I have been told there will be cake. If you are looking for something to do, there will plenty for the soul this weekend with this special marathon concert. (Check out “Rock Choir Shrewsbury” on Facebook to find out more)
Thank you Rowan and Hanna at Cafe on the Cop for helping me organise this interview at such short notice. Hanna your cafe oozes character and it was a fantastic place to record. Rowan and the guys from Rock Choir, well don for being you and welcome back to the big stage, you guys are fantastic!
