For this special episode Alex is joined by Katy Rink from My Shrewsbury Magazine at Shrewsbury Ark. The Ark is a hub for people that are homeless or are need of support for adverse reasons.
The mission for today is to understand what Shrewsbury Ark offers in way of support and also to open up a channel to its users.
Speaking to Chair of Trustees Emily Bell, we find out about the day to day running of The Ark and the challenges that met are too. Luckily there were representatives of the Hepatitis C Trust at the Ark too. Andy and Jamie were there testing, advising and offering treatment to those who needed it. Alex and Katie had a fascinating discussion about their work.
We also had a chat with 2 of The Ark’s users. In a bid to get an insight to their lives and truly understand their hardships. What has led them to be in the situation they find themselves in? How do they get by? What daily challenges are met on the streets? And how much of a lifeline are places like The Shrewsbury Ark?
This is the start of an on-going project that we have planned to give Shrewsbury’s homeless community a voice. This was an ice-breaker, there will be more to come.
