Today AL is speaking to Angelika Barre from Shropshire Epilepsy Support. Having lived with epilepsy all of her life and realising that, despite certain efforts, there wasn’t an awful lot of support out there on a personable level, Ange decided to take matters into her own hands and create her own charity.
Shropshire Epilepsy Support is a non for profit charity that offers the kind of support the Ange would have appreciated herself coming up.
We get real during this conversation. We discuss the difficulties of school, the “opinions of people”, the myths out there (really common ones too!) and also how personal and ridiculous people can get in the comments sections on social media!
The work that Ange is putting into her charity is offering a lifeline, advice, awareness and understanding to the epileptic community, whether that be families coming to terms, people that have been affected in the long-term and even in the workplace.
I need to note here that Ange did have seizure during this interview (2 in-fact) and mentioned I should take it out. But after discussing afterwards we decided, actually it was nice to keep it in as it was a good moment to show. I am always understanding when it comes to my guests and if Ange wanted it left out, it would have stayed out. I loved chatting to you Ange and I look forward to helping you in any way we can.
